Shiatsu

Japanese in origin – Shiatsu literally translated means ‘finger pressure’.
It involves the client lying comfortably on a mat or sitting in a chair whilst the practitioner uses her/his thumbs, palms, elbows, knees and feet to apply gentle pressure to different parts of the body to revitalise, balance and relax.

It is based on the principle that we have within our bodies an invisible network of ‘meridians’ – channels through wich energy (ki) flows.  Along these channels exist pressure points (tsubo’s).

Blocked or stagnant energy can cause many ailments and directly affect our sense of well being.  Shiatsu uses the pressure points to release blocked energy and to create a flow of harmonious balanced energy within the mind and body.

Techniques include gentle rocking, stretching, manipulation and holding.
