Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is an ancient healing art practiced over the millennia by all the major human civilizations. It was rather ‘lost’ with the split of modern science and philosophy; but happily ‘rediscovered’ in the 19th century and is now recognised as one of the most all encompassing and trusted of the holistic healing disciplines. For some very good reasons: it is safe, relaxing, pleasurable and highly effective!

How is it practiced?

A specific form of massage is used to palpate reflex areas on the feet, hands and face with only the use of the practitioners’ hands. It follows the natural laws of correspondence, similitude and symmetry; that each body part can reflect and treat the whole of the body. The feet are the principle area used but treatments are individually tailored to the client’s specific needs at that time.

All forms of Reflexology have the same aims:

To relax the nervous system, free up energy circulation, stimulate the natural defence mechanisms – then allow nature to do the rest.

How can reflexology help me?

Reflexology can be carried out on any person at any age, from babies to the elderly, and for any disorder or disease of the individual. There are very few contraindications for use.

Reflexology has been shown to be particularly effective for chronic problems including:

  • Stress related conditions

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Immunological deficiencies

  • Muscle and joint pain

  • Digestive disorders

Reflexology is also of great benefit for couples planning a family. It can be very effective in cases of unexplained infertility, and is an ideal supportive therapy to receive throughout pregnancy and indeed during and after birth as well.

What form to treatments take?

A treatment usually lasts about 45mins, after a consultation to determine the state of physical and mental health at that time. Duration and number of treatments depends on the individual and will be discussed at the initial consultation. Usually a course of 3 or more treatments is needed for lasting changes to come about.
